Job Description

  1.      Works with the teacher to prepare instructional materials and class reports, and to present lessons to support classroom instruction.      

  2.      Demonstrates an understanding of students’ problems, keeps a firm hand, yet is courteous.

  3.      Attends Open House and grade level meetings.      

  4.      Keeps applicable records.      

  5.      Does related work as required.      

 

 

Job Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Current NYSED Teaching Assistant Certification preferred but required to obtain within 30 days of hire. Candidate must have a passing score on the New York State Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills (ATAS).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators.  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  

REASONING ABILITY:
bility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.    

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.  Basic understanding of computer hardware and operating systems.  Thorough knowledge of applicable instructional software.  Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.   Ability to use personal computer applications such as word processing, spread sheets, etc.
