The Wappingers Central School District is seeking a full-time Registered Professional Nurse. This position is responsible for providing, at one or more schools, health services for students and staff, and acts as advocate, liaison  and consultant on health-related issues for students, families and school personnel. The School Nurse is an integral part of the WCSD school program in supporting an optimum physical, mental, emotional and social climate for all students and staff. The services provided by the School Nurse include health care delivery, health counseling and health program and policy development.

School Monitors
  1. Patrols school lobbies and corridors.    
  2. Maintains order in hallways, study halls, dining areas, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and activity areas.     
  3. Issues and checks passes.     
  4. Supervises and/or attempts to calm students removed from class for disciplinary reasons.      
  5. Intervenes in classroom confrontations and student fights and, if necessary, may help subdue students whose conduct presents an actual danger to themselves or others.
  6. Checks storage rooms, lavatories, etc., for students reported missing from class.
  7. Escorts students to and from the cafeteria at lunch time and/or special appointments.
  8. Informs superiors of observations of student behavior.
  9. Oversees students passing between classes in locker rooms and on premises before and after school.
  10. Monitors students in parking lots and supervises the loading of buses.
  11. May collect attendance reports.
  12. May assist in rendering first aid in emergencies.
  13. May help children in lower grades with wearing apparel.

Substitute Registered Professional Nurse 2022-2023

1. Protecting and maintaining student’s health by providing professional nursing services in accordance with
    Nursing Standards and NYS licensing.
2. Providing NYS mandated and annual screening programs including vision, hearing, height, weight and 
     scoliosis.
3.  Facilitating NYS mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements, as well as 
     providing influenza immunization education.
4.  Identifying and assessing students’ health needs, implementing services and evaluating plans of care which
     impact student learning and achievement or safety.
5.  Participating as members of the school’s multi-disciplinary team, interpreting medical data and writing 
     objectives for the health component of the IEP and/or 504 plans.
6.  Acting as liaison between home and school, and community providers for medical issues.
7.  Identifying and reporting school building safety or environmental issues which impact student or staff health 
     to the building administrator.
8.  Participating as members of the school’s Core Safety Teams.

3. Prepares planned instructional materials, attendance reports and class reports.
4. Supervises student involved in non-classroom activities under the general supervision of a teacher.

Substitute Teacher 2022-2023

The Wappingers Central School District is seeking substitute teaching candidates in all subject areas. Long term assignments may become available throughout the school year.

Candidates for all substitute positions must receive WCSD Board approval as a WCSD substitute teacher prior to starting assignment date.  

Certified substitute teachers will be paid $120 per day. Uncertified substitute teachers will be paid $100 per day. 

Substitute Typist 2022-2023
  1. Utilizes a keyboard to prepare letters, payrolls, reports, bulletins, applications and a variety of other material from rough draft.
  2. Answers telephone and acts as office receptionist, giving out information of routine nature.
  3. Operates a copying machine, calculator, computer, fax machine, or other simple office machines. 
  4. Maintains simple accounting and a variety of other records in accordance with prescribed office routine.
  5. Sorts, indexes, and files.                                  
  6. May enter data into terminal from forms and printed copy.
  7. Does related work as required.         
$14.20/hourly
Food Service Helper / Substitute Food Service Helper 2022-2023
  1. Assists cooks in phases of food preparation involving lesser degrees of skill than those of Cook or Assistant Cook.
  2. Assists in the preparation of salads and desserts.
  3. Cleans, washes, and otherwise prepares vegetables and fruits for cooking.
  4. Washes dishes, pots and pans by hand or machine.
  5. Cleans kitchen or dining areas.
  6. Cleans work areas and equipment such as counters, trays, tray carts, hot food tables, coffee urns, toasters, etc.
  7. Handles food and equipment in accordance with sanitary practices.
  8. Fills sugar bowls and salt and pepper shakers.
  9. Attends inservice training sessions.
  10. May assemble items for bag lunches.
  11. May set tables and clear them after meals.
  12. May act as cashier.

Candidates for all substitute positions must receive WCSD Board approval as a WCSD substitute administrator prior to starting assignment date. 

Substitute School Psychologist / Social Worker / Counselor 2022-2023

The Wappingers Central School District is seeking substitute psychologists / social workers / counselors. Long term assignments may become available throughout the school year.

Candidates for all substitute positions must receive WCSD Board approval as a WCSD substitute psychologist / social worker / counselor prior to starting assignment date.  

Certified substitute psychologists / social workers / counselors will be paid $120 per day. 

Substitute Cook 2022-2023

1.    Prepares and cooks meat, fish, poultry, soups, vegetables, macaroni, desserts, salads and other foods. 
2.    Prepares cakes, pies, rolls and a variety of other desserts. 
3.    Supervises and participates in the cleaning of serving, storage and dining areas, and in the care of equipment. 
4.    May supervise the proper storing of food. 
5.    May keep simple related records. 
6.    Does related work as required.

Maintenance Mechanic - 2nd Shift

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

1.    Supervises, inspects and/or performs skilled repairs to plumbing, steam lines, electric wiring and equipment, audio-visual equipment, furniture, doors and window, hardware and varied mechanical equipment and machinery.
2.    Installs and/or sets-up shelving, storage cabinets, audio-visual equipment and new hardware.                
3.    Does skilled painting work.
4.    Maintains and repairs central heating systems.
5.    Makes inspections of property to ascertain repair needs.
6.    Estimates material required for repairs, installations, maintenance and events.
7.    Delivers and picks-up required equipment and/or supplies needed to perform assigned tasks.
8.    May keep daily time and material records.
